Two Cities Inside One: Old Commerce City and the New North
Commerce City incorporated in 1952 as Commerce Town, built from neighborhoods such as Rose Hill and southern Adams City, and it annexed part of the old railroad town of Derby in 1962. It is now a home rule city of more than 62,000 people and has grown quickly in recent decades.
That history splits the plumbing work into two different worlds. The older southern neighborhoods around Rose Hill, Adams City, and Derby carry original lines from the postwar decades, while northern subdivisions such as Eagle Creek and Reunion were built out more recently with modern PEX and PVC.
Plains Wind, the South Platte, and Groundwater
Commerce City sits along the South Platte River at roughly 5,160 feet, on flatter and more exposed ground than the foothill side of the metro. Wind-driven cold makes exposed outdoor spigots, garage supply lines, and crawl space pipe the usual freeze casualties.
The river bottom and the former Arsenal lands also mean groundwater can sit closer to the surface in some parts of the city. Basements in lower-lying neighborhoods are worth a sump pump test before spring melt.
From Derby and Adams City to Reunion and Eagle Creek
In the south, the Commerce City Civic Center at 60th Avenue and Trenton Street anchors the Prairie Gateway area next to Dick's Sporting Goods Park, home of the Colorado Rapids. Homes and small businesses around Derby and Adams City lean toward drain, sewer, and water heater age calls.
North of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, subdivisions like Eagle Creek, Buffalo Run, and Reunion see newer-construction calls. Those are tankless descaling, water softener setup, sump pump checks, and warranty-era fixture repairs.
Water Districts, Refinery Corridor, and Commercial Calls
South Adams County Water and Sanitation District serves much of Commerce City, so the meter and sewer connection rules differ from Westminster's Westy Water system. We confirm the district for the address and handle the permit side so the homeowner is not left calling three offices.
Commerce City is a mixed residential and industrial city, known for its Suncor oil refinery. Businesses along the refinery corridor and the interstate interchanges often need backflow testing, floor drain work, and grease trap service, which is the work our commercial plumbing page covers.
Why Commerce City Is Part of Our Route
Commerce City sits just southeast of Thornton and about 17 minutes from our Westminster base by our estimate, so it is a short hop for emergency dispatch and not an outer-ring stretch.
Welby, Derby, and North Washington are unincorporated communities between us and Commerce City. They appear in the copy on this page and do not get thin pages of their own.
Commerce City runs its own building and permit process, and replacements and repipes inside city limits are completed to the Colorado Plumbing Code (IPC) and inspected before the work is closed up.
Commerce City ZIP Codes We Cover
We dispatch across every Commerce City ZIP code, including 80022, 80640, 80216, and pair that coverage with the specific service Commerce City calls for most: Water Heater Repair. Emergency dispatch reaches all of these around the clock, plus the 80229 corridor just over the Commerce City line, since our coverage doesn't stop sharply at a city boundary. If you're in 80022 or 80216 and not sure whether we cover your block, call (303) 552-3896 and we'll confirm on the spot.
